Coachella, a large music festival, which includes many music fans
https://www.coachella.comCoachella, is a music festival held out of Indio California, at the Empire Polo Club. It started out back in 1999, and is put on by the AEG music provider. When you get a ticket for your time at coachella, their website provides you with trip planning advice, guides, passes and lineups. The website encourages viewers to see the experience online before they invest in tickets and hotels. The website is effectively maintained so that it's easy to use and it encourages that the younger target market is drawn in. One can appreciate the aesthetic of their page as they mix music and the arts together.
Saint Michaels College is a liberal arts school where we are encouraged to explore music and the arts. I have been very interested in working on drawing, painting, and sculpture. I hope to pursue an Art minor which can be used to work on marketing efforts for a potential job. The picture below is an example of the projects I have been working on this summer. It depicts the Madonna crying above a crying Lion with the tree from the original sin. This art was aimed at targeting those who have an understanding of the origins of Christian Faith.
The Festival has a wide array of artists over the two
weekends that it takes place. By having many different types of musicians and
artists, there is a lot of variety in the genres and types of music playing
each night. It’s a very smart idea to be opening their target market to a more
broad group so that they can include more people. One of Coachellas main
marketing strategies is to bring in opinion leaders from each genre. Two of the
main opinion leaders that will be playing this year are Kendrick Lamar and Lady
Gaga. Kendrick Lamar has appeared on the rap scene and has done a very good job
of keeping a certain flow and style to his music. Lady Gaga who is in the pop
industry, has always been known for being a little over the top and doing things
to the extreme.

Something that is very unique to Coachella, like mentioned
before, is their various art instillations around the concert grounds. The
sculptures include recycled materials to show that Coachella supports being
sustainable and environmentally friendly. Part of the reason why there is art
outside of the venue is to engage the viewers and promote a healthy future for
our planet. I think it is important that something so large scale as a festival,
makes people aware of the resources used to put on the event and more
importantly how important it is to continue being practical when using natural
resources.
After looking at Coachella and a piece of my own art, It
would be easy to say someone of my backround might really enjoy a concert like
this. Not only is it in beautiful California, but they are focused on giving
back to the local community, which as a SMC student is very important. I hope
to continue looking into more of the topics that interest me.
Best—
Jake
